At Enabling Lives, we proudly support people aged 16 and above in the vibrant communities of Birmingham and Gloucestershire. Our dedicated support extends to those with learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, complex needs and people who have experienced trauma.
We offer responsive and effective services tailoring the care & support to meet the person’s changing needs and we strive to maximise choice, control and independence, ensuring that every person we support feels valued and respected.

It has been almost 3 months since Enabling Lives got involved, it's still very early days but already they have developed a really good understanding of X’s needs and strong relationships with him and mom. In terms of his occupational needs, I will write a discharge summary with recommendations, but I'm happy that X has more opportunities for meaningful engagement and the staff team are being really proactive in maintaining the PBS.”

“Just a quick email commending you and Enabling Lives on the comprehensive Positive Behavioural Risk Management Plan you have in place for X. Having looked at the plan on 26/11/21 along with meeting both yourself, X and Mom in a planned OPA with the Consultant Psychiatrist, I was able to appreciate the difficulties in terms of behaviour and risk working with this young man presents. The plan shows in its detail a comprehensive assessment of need as well as identifying strategies for carers to use when X is at baseline, beginning to show signs of escalating and when displaying behaviours of concern. My work as a Community Learning Disability Nurse involves working with many providers and subsequent PBS plans and rarely have I seen such a comprehensive but clear document."

“XXX rated the provision 10/10. I have observed the home to be clean and tidy, I did not observe any health and safety concerns and feel staff manage any maintenance issues within a timely manner as raised. Risk is assessed with the child at the centre, they do not manage every situation in the same way and I feel this is because staff take the time to assess individual scenarios before reacting. A police officer reported to me on 24.11.23 that they felt staff managed a high-risk situation very well, the officer felt the staff gave the child space and time and said if they had reacted differently this would have escalated the situation. I agree that this was one of the best managed situations I have seen in a long time, they know the child very well including triggers that will escalate the situation. Communication is excellent between staff, specifically Alina, Abs and Sharon. Effectively and efficiently, again communication plays a large part in this and the provider is very good at making calls and sending emails. They always have minutes written up after meetings which are always accurate and they always follow up on actions. The provider takes safeguarding concerns very seriously, I have been very impressed with the providers ability to adapt and de-escalate many scenarios.”
“This is a good quality placement with a high regard for risk management of an young person with extremely challenging behaviour. When visiting the placement, I found it clean and safe with all essential facilities. Frequently there is damage to the setting and extra steps such as locking of kitchen equipment required to maintain safety, but attempts are also made to keep this as a welcoming and warm home for this young person. My observations have been mostly of the management and oversight of the placement rather than the day to day staff team. The overall management and behavioural management of the team is of a high standard and is a good example of teamwork and clarity of purpose while retaining realism and an approachable nature. Safeguarding is a high priority and all concerns or complaints have been swiftly addressed and answered. There is a comprehensive risk management system that is regularly updated. The young person regularly raises issues short of formal complaints though her IRO. These are answered promptly and appropriate action or explanation is taken.”
